FBE 5008 Scientific Article Writing in English is a course offered to PhD and MS students in Karadeniz Technical University and the aim of the course is basically to equip the research students with the skills required for research article writing. The course aims at helping the students write research articles on the topics of their interest related to a student?s field by conforming to the relevant formatting standards of writing without committing plagiarism. Conducting research, reference selection, article construction, citing sources, outlining, organizing a reference page and note taking skills will be highlighted and revised. Such important issued as paraphrasing and summarizing techniques, use of quotations and the incorporation of these research findings in the paper together with the inclusion of personal comments will be the other main considerations of the course. Finally, the course aims at introducing the research students the relevant and field-dependent terminology and lexical combinations which are widely used in the research articles of the indexed journals as well as help creating awareness towards the application of research process by conforming to the conventions of academic life and adhering to the norms of research ethics. |

The content of the FBE 5008 Scientific Article Writing in English is comprised of teaching the skills necessary for the successful organization and content of the research articles each student need to create. Course takers will be responsible from writing a sample research paper on a topic of interest related to their fields by conforming to the relevant formatting standards (APA) of writing without committing plagiarism. In this course the whole research process is taught step by step through skills including research, source selection, choice of topic, construction and defense of a thesis statement, citing sources, outlining, organizing a reference page and note taking. Critical elements of the course are instruction in paraphrasing and summarizing techniques, use of quotations and the incorporation of these research findings in the paper together with the inclusion of personal comments, avoidance of plagiarism and conforming to ethical rules. |
